A jewellery centre and workshop for Cibali, built not on empty land, but on the district's dead spaces, to bounce its colour back.
The parti
Cibali is historic, dense and quietly leaking life: parking lots, wrecked corners, lost thresholds. The project begins by mapping these dead spaces, major, corner, secondary, wrecked, and asking what each could offer instead: exhibitions, community places, seating, gardens. The site is chosen strategically on an imaginary route through the district's jewellery-making heritage.
The concept
The lead axis takes the street itself as reference, mirroring its dynamics in shape; connections graft the new body onto existing functions as exhibition and path. Modular red frames of 2×4 metres span over the buried structure and ride the slope between rooftops; an elevator to the north shortens the climb and grants the view to the sea. One module type, many roles, a scaffold of possibilities ready to transfer to other dead spaces of the region.
