The system

MOBAS is developed within the Elastic Robotic Structures framework as a Bending-Active Tensile-Hybrid (BATH) system: an elastic rod bent into a loop, tensile fabric stretched inside it, and motors with sliding and spool mechanisms tensioning the assembly for real-time shape transformation. The model above is the actual prototype geometry: add and remove the fabric panels to see how membrane and rod work together.

Talking to the space

What moves it beyond pre-programmed automation is the interface: occupants co-design their environment through text or voice. Natural language processing and sentiment analysis via large language models interpret commands, tone and context. Say "I want to work" and the pod adjusts its light, shade and form to match both the functional and the emotional need. Inspired by Frei Otto's kinetic fabric research, the modular system scales to exhibitions, co-working hubs and pop-ups: spaces that listen, learn and evolve with their users.
